Each May, High Blood Pressure Education Month highlights the urgent need for early detection, patient education and effective management of hypertension. Nearly half of U.S. adults have high blood pressure, but many don’t know they have it. Healthcare providers play a vital role in educating patients on hypertension-related complications such as heart disease, stroke and kidney damage.

Health Quality Innovators (HQI) is proud to partner with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to assist physician practices throughout the state in implementing a self-monitoring blood pressure (SMBP) program. SMBP monitoring allows patients to track their blood pressure outside of clinical settings. Research shows that SMBP, combined with clinical support, leads to better blood pressure control and reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.

By prioritizing awareness and action, providers can help reduce risks and improve long-term health outcomes. Let’s use this month to reinforce the importance of proactive care and collaboration in combating this silent but deadly condition.
