November 12 marks World Pneumonia Day, a global initiative led by the Every Breath Counts Coalition to raise awareness and drive action against the world’s leading infectious killer: pneumonia.

According to Every Breath Counts, in 2023 alone, pneumonia claimed 2.5 million lives, including 610,000 children under five.

This year’s campaign emphasizes the urgent need to address the growing burden of respiratory infections, especially among vulnerable populations such as young children and older adults. Factors like air pollution, smoking and limited access to vaccines and medical oxygen continue to exacerbate the crisis.

Health Quality Innovators joins the global community in recognizing the importance of equitable access to prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Together, we can help reduce barriers and improve outcomes for those most at risk.
