On September 13, 2026, healthcare organizations around the world will recognize World Sepsis Day, a global initiative dedicated to increasing awareness of sepsis and the importance of early recognition and treatment. Established by the Global Sepsis Alliance, World Sepsis Day encourages healthcare professionals, patients, caregivers and communities to work together to reduce the impact of this life-threatening condition.

Sepsis occurs when the body’s response to an infection damages its own tissues and organs. It affects an estimated 47 to 50 million people worldwide each year and is associated with at least 11 million deaths, making it a major global health concern. Early recognition and prompt treatment can significantly improve patient outcomes.

The Southeast QIN-QIO’s SBAR Communication for Possible Sepsis helps care team members identify potential signs of sepsis, review key resident information for changes in condition and use the SBAR communication framework to clearly report concerns and support timely intervention. Download and share this tool to increase awareness of sepsis signs and symptoms.
