Each September, Sepsis Awareness Month shines a spotlight on a critical health issue that affects millions. This annual observance encourages individuals, healthcare professionals and community organizations to come together to raise awareness about sepsis—a life-threatening condition that arises when the body’s response to infection causes widespread inflammation.
Sepsis can lead to serious complications, including tissue damage, organ failure and even death. According to the Sepsis Alliance, more than 70% of adult sepsis cases occur in people aged 60 and older, making older adults especially vulnerable. Others at increased risk include individuals with weakened immune systems.
Education is key to prevention and early detection. That’s why HQI Academy, the learning platform from Health Quality Innovators, offers free online courses focused on sepsis. The learning modules and accompanying resources are designed to empower healthcare providers and caregivers with the knowledge they need to recognize symptoms early and respond effectively.
Let’s use this month to spread awareness, educate our communities and help save lives.
